We decided to put on a Sunday 4pm matinee performance, and achieved 90% capacity. I can only imagine what sort of business we would have done had we secured a Friday or Saturday evening. Audience feedback was simply great, and I have had many requests to ensure “Tamworth” comes back in future years. Staging your show so it sits well in a proscenium arch theatre gives the audience a quality theatre type concert. “ Thank you to Merelyn & David for the Song Writers Retreat held in Sept 2017 at the Cheeky Fox Retreat, Kinglake NSW. What a relaxing way to get the artistic vibes flowing. We were surrounded by the most beautiful country, greeted and made to feel welcome by our gracious hosts and surrounded by a 'like minded' and an extremely talented bunch of people.
The first night was exciting as we got to know, and hear the stories from our group who were from all over Australia and from all walks of life. Our belly's were kept full throughout the weekend with great country cooking and then it was down to work - sunrise to sunset. David and Merelyn not only shared their tips & experience, but also mentored us through some of our songs. You can never know everything and there was plenty to learn.
The guest presenters, Adrian Hannan & Jetty Road, shared some great advise in regards to the music industry and their own song-writing processes. It was very inspiring to be able to have one on one time with artists who have not only achieved nationally, but internationally!
The highlight though was meeting new people and making new friends. Having a network of people to lean on, laugh with or just get some feedback from is an important part of being not only a song-writer, but it is important part of just being.
